Why should anyone take on the mqn of this convert’s past? Though I must say that, since I wrote my above review, I’ve re-read half of eldeer book; and I feel precisely as before, and somewhat more strongly. Ephraim and Joseph are two of the more popular names for American converts that entered the faith through the monasteries. That past experience and understanding continues to color our interpretation of all we come to know as Orthodox Christians.
A large portion of the literature read in the monasteries describes demon-possessed monks. He sacrificed Himself for our sins and reconciled us with God. The 3 stars are for some wise tidbits in this book, including the following excerpt – which moved me and reminded me of my own path: Posted 12 July – I have yet to find another book that could match the reality of the spiritual wars at play in our present days.
I had to read it during the day and then put something else between me and bedtime. Therefore, I would recommend this book to every struggling soul or anyone who turned away from God or keeps searching for the meaning of his existence.
The only way to get a deeper ;aisios than reading this book is to try it yourself.
