The Day of the Dreader – Cressida Cowell
This book is a great introduction to the How to train your Dragon series. As expected this was a fun and surreal read, featuring hungry dragons and vikings, a rather scary dragon that throws out stinky goo and who also lays siege to Berk. The unique blend of child centred humour and sublime prose made Hiccup an instant hit. Enjoyed this tale of dragons, featuring Hiccup and adorable Toothless! May 04, S. I recommend this book to anyone; this book is meant for all ages.

This was a very short, quick read, an extra book written for World Book Day. I love her books! Short but good read. The Dreader screams, and says that they have stolen its future.
As they sail back to Berk, now unafraid of the Dreader, Hiccup notices a column of smoke from his house and rushes in only to find the three Dragons.

Only this time the story focuses on a terrible day when the people of Berk were left being starved due to one terrible and deadly dragon called the Dreader that’s been lurking around their island for months. A fun and short Dragon story with all the usual staples of the series. It was funny at some parts.
Cressida Cowell grew up in London and on a small, uninhabited island off the west coast of Scotland.

In Day of the Dreader, I liked it when Toothless found the Dreader eggs and I especially liked it when he tried to save the baby dragons, even though only a couple of minutes earlier he wanted to eat them. To his dismay, the eggs hatch, popping three teeny-weeny little Dragons who mistake Toothless for their Papa. This style of writing helps build suspense in the story.

And my son does, too! I think the best part is that we read and enjoy these together! This story is action packed, and very, VERY, very, funny.
There were some really funny parts like when Toothless tried to eat some eggs and they turned out to be Dreader eggs. I would still encourage others to read it for themselves: Lists with This Book.

This little book had as laughing and turning pages right from the first word. Books by Cressida Cowell.
It is a great story to share with kids, because it’s short, fun, and not at all scary. Stoick and the Hairy Hooligan tribe attempt to frighten away a gigantic Dreader dragon that has camped out in the harbor of Berk, preventing the Vikings from fishing.
